About Mobilis

The ownership of Mobilis Healthcare

In April 2009, the Mobilis Healthcare Group was acquired by Homecraft Rolyan, the UK’s leading value-added supplier of easier living aids, therapy and paediatric products. Homecraft is a wholly-owned business of Patterson Companies Inc, a publically-quoted US corporation serving the dental, veterinary and medical markets.  Read the press release: Homecraft Roylan acquires the Mobilis Healthcare Group

Innovative beginnings

OfficesThe Mobilis heritage started in 1978 and began as Medisport International, the first company in Europe to specialise in sports medicine. Medisport introduced a range of branded products for the prevention and treatment of sports injuries, which it sold to football and rugby clubs. Through a process of organic growth and acquisitions, Medisport’s customer base was expanded to include physiotherapists in private practice, many of whom provided their services to these clubs on a part-time basis.

Amongst many other achievements, Medisport was responsible for introducing into Europe preventative (prophylactic) strapping techniques using non elastic tape, which is now standard practice throughout the sporting spectrum. The company was appointed Official Medical Supplier to the Rugby World Cup in 1991. Medisport launched “ The Getting Better Guide to sports injuries” in 1994, which was voted website of the month by The Guardian.

In 1986, the Stoller family, best known for introducing the “Tubigrip” brand of tubular stockinette, started Medipost Ltd, a company supplying consumables and capital equipment to private physiotherapists under the “Procare” brand name.

Merging with Medipost

Some 10 years later, Medisport bought Medipost Ltd and relocated to the site in Oldham, Lancashire to become the leading supplier to physiotherapists in private practice.

The Medisport/Medipost group strengthened their market position with the purchase of Footman & Company Ltd, a London-based supplier of consumables, such as blades, creams, etc and capital equipment eg. Autoclaves, drills, couches, which it sells to chiropodists and podiatrists. This business was relocated to the Oldham site in October, 2000.

To consolidate the growing businesses, in 2002 a holding company was formed under the name of Mobilis Healthcare Group.

Continuous growth

It grew quickly, and now sells a range of over 15,000 products to professional medical, sport and consumer markets through seven business units: Specialist Medical, General Medical, Brands, Premier Servicing Solutions, County Footwear, Specialist Rehab Products and Sport.

The company developed after spotting there was a gap in the market, supplying health professionals with all the equipment they needed for their trade via mail order.

The company has grown stronger with a range of thousands of products and a current workforce of more than 100 employees.

Since 2002 Mobilis has embarked on an ambitious programme of acquisitions designed to extend the company’s portfolio from pure physiotherapy, podiatry and sport products to a business that offers a wide range of specialist medical, general medicine and owned brand products. These acquisitions have included:

• Neen Design Ltd: Pelvic Healthcare

• Trimilin: Sports Medicine

• Sorbothane: Unique Shock absorber Insoles
